Introduction:
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Corporate Responsibility (CR) Manager to create and manage the US sustainability strategy for a leading international supermarket chain.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop, recommend, implement and manage systems and processes that foster a socially and environmentally responsible corporate culture which benefit customers, employees and the communities served,
- Work with the International CR Team to integrate the US sustainability strategy into the core business strategy and existent International CR strategy,
- Work with the quality assurance team to ensure that the supermarket has commercially-viable and market-aware sustainability action plans in place that allow sustainability goals to be achieved eg. Sustainably sourced coffee, animal welfare mandates, forestry initiatives,
- Manage relationships with appropriate non-governmental organizations, external consultants, business associations, suppliers and public agencies,
- To develop KPIs for all areas of sustainability including product development, supply chain management and procurement,
- Advise the Corporate Responsibility/Quality Assurance Director on topics for discussion at International CR meetings,
- Research new potential CR initiatives on behalf of the Corporate Buying Department, identified through the media, NGO activity, competitor,
- Lead and direct the work of Corporate Responsibility Assistant(s) ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures,
- Coordinate the collection of data on CR initiatives and develop systems to improve the collection, maintenance and communication of the sustainability process,
- Manage the reporting of National Action Plans (NAP’s) and International Action Plans (IAP’s),
- Coordinate information to assist in improving the decisions of the Buying Department, relating to product quality and Corporate Responsibility,
- Write and manage reports, brochures, website content related to sustainability.
Key requirements:
- US Citizenship or green card and knowledge of the certification schemes, legislation and sustainability space in the US,
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, environmental sciences, compliance or a related field; Master’s Degree preferred,
- A minimum of 5 years progressive experience in identification of and addressing CR issues, or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge; experience ideally within FMCG sector,
- Knowledge around sustainability issues material to a supermarket,
- The ability to work under pressure,
- The confidence to present sustainability business cases at Director-level is essential,
- Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks in an efficient and professional manner,
- Excellent written ability and experience writing for a variety of audiences including reports, proposals and stakeholder engagement pieces.
Salary:
70-80k USD, dependent upon experience
